What the scene shows
The fairy sits with one leg crossed, long hair falling down her back and a dress decorated with swirls. Her wings open to both sides, with veins that form cells. She holds a small orb of light, and around her you will find ferns, bellflowers, foxgloves, smaller mushrooms, berries and tree trunks. Fireflies are scattered all through the air.
A good age for the fairy
It is meant for kids from nine to fourteen. There are lots of small areas, especially in the forest, so patience helps, but the fairy and the mushroom are big enough for detailed coloring. Anyone who wants a gentler challenge can focus on the character and leave the background in a single tone.
How to print the fairy
Download the PDF in the size you need and send it at one hundred percent scale. With so many fine lines in the background, choose normal or high print quality. Smooth paper of medium or heavy weight lets you shade the wings and dress without the grain of the sheet showing.
Color ideas for the enchanted forest
Try a nighttime forest in deep greens and blues, and make the ball of light the brightest spot on the whole page in a very soft yellow. The wings can fade from pink to violet, and the mushroom can wear a red cap with white dots made by leaving the paper unpainted.
One light that changes the whole scene
The little orb the fairy holds is the light source of the picture, and that lets you play with color very effectively. Color the orb a pale yellow and add a warm tone to the nearest objects, such as her hands, her dress and the edge of the mushroom. The farther something sits from the orb, the cooler and darker its color should be, all the way to the trunks in the background. Keep the glow soft near its center and let it fade outward, so the light seems to spread through the scene.
